All about Amsterdam Leather Cleaner
Traditionally, Amsterdam Leather Cleaners were sold with an isopropyl formula, and many of their bottles still stick true to this. However, over the 30+ years since their inception, we’ve also seen Amsterdam release Amyl and Pentyl leather cleaners.
There’s no ‘best’ formula and different people have their own preferences. If unsure, the best way to work out what you’ll prefer is to try!
As a general rule, it is often said that amyl nitrite leather cleaner will have a longer build up time to their peak and last longer. By contrast, it is often said that isopropyl and pentyl will take effect much faster, but equally last for a shorter amount of time.
To ensure your Amsterdam leather cleaners stay as fresh as long as possible, store them upright as soon as they arrive. While a few days in transit will be fine, the chemicals in your bottles are corrosive and will eventually dissolve the sealant placed around the lid. This will also help avoid any leakages.
To ensure we only send you fresh bottles, we keep limited stock ourselves. To keep them this way we also recommend keeping them refrigerated, or at the very least somewhere dark and not too warm.
As long as your leather cleaners are properly cared for and stored, they should stay potent for a number of weeks after first opening. Your leather cleaner will eventually begin to lose strength, but this will depend on a number of factors including the formula, storage and bottle.
This is quite a big question, but we’ll cover the basics quickly here.
First of all, you want to start off with the right formula. Propyl poppers tend to be weaker, but Amyl and Butanol are on the stronger end.
If you’re already using a stronger formula of Amsterdam bottles, we recommend looking at the Bottle Topper. This attaches to your regular bottle and concentrates the hits, making a regular bottle far stronger than it was before.
